..."Do you remember that song? Something about paradise and parking lots?"

Dipper rolled his eyes in thought. His face suddenly lit up and he snapped his fingers. "Oh yeah! They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." He tapped his foot in rhythm with the beat that now played in his head. "Now I'll have that stuck in my head all day. What about it?"

"Another line. You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone." Her chest began to hurt with the thought, and she rubbed at it. "I think my heart is literally leaking sadness right now."

"Mabel..." He slid over and embraced her. "We're going to fight, but it's never going to split us up." She clung to him for a while silently. "That's it. I'm here. You will never, ever get rid of me now."

She giggled, but something was genuinely different about this particular hug. It was warmer and more comforting, a feeling that all the sweaters on Earth couldn't hope to match. "Dipper, I-"

"Sssh. No words. Only hugs now."

Hearing the sentence she'd used so many times before to help him feel better moved her in a way that was surprising, and for once she actually did fall silent. In that moment, she realized her brother was the best suit of armor in the world.
